Gorilla Brake and Components is offering heavy duty truck brake drums that are manufactured in a TS16949 foundry using only a high grade steel casting. Our drums are turned on a CNC lathe to guarantee all of the drum’s dimensions and that it meets the following SAE standards and is interchangeable with OEM and aftermarket drums in North America.
SAE – J1671-1997
(Outboard mounted brake drum/disc wheel hub interface dimensions – Commercial vehicles).
SAE – J1865-1999
(Dimension compatibility for Commercial Vehicles fitment of complete wheels)
3500 Grey Iron = Longer Drum Life3500
The GB3 is made from OEM – specified grey iron. This dense iron promotes drum life and allows wheels to operate at lower temperatures. Many people think that all brake drums are made from the same iron. This isn’t true. Inferior grade iron may cost less to make, but it will cost fleets increased downtime and increased drum wear because those drums will wear faster. Many drums produced today use a 2000 grey iron. This highly porous iron will retain heat during braking and cause the wheel end to run hotter than normal.
GB&C Inc. GB3 drum uses 3500 grey iron. Its high density characteristics means your drums will last longer and since they don’t retain heat, your brakes will last longer as well. Cooler drums mean better braking performance as shown in the Testing Result chart.
